Dear members of the TERENO advisory board!

As already announced end of February, the Northeastern German Lowland Observatory (‘TERENO-Northeast’), coordinated by the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences (, invites this year the advisory board for the annual meeting. The meeting takes places on 16-17 September 2013 at Klink village, located at Lake Mueritz – approx. 100 km northwest of Berlin.

Preliminary Agenda (.pdf)

Program overview:

According to the program (see the attachment) the meeting starts on 16 September (Monday), 10:00 o’clock with session 1, giving some overarching presentations on TERENO. In the early afternoon in session 2 presentations from different Helmholtz centers involved in TERENO will follow. These presentations will be given by scientist be concerned with specific research questions in our four TERENO observatories. In the late afternoon, at first, an internal meeting of the advisory board, than a discussion of the advisory board with the scientific steering committee of TERENO is scheduled. After the following poster presentation we have organized an evening excursion to a nearby spectacular freshwater aquarium (“Mueritzeum”) with subsequent dinner, enjoying – among others – local fish specialties from Lake Mueritz.

The second day, 17 September (Tuesday), is scheduled for a half-day excursion to Mueritz National Park (8:00-14:00 o’clock), where scientists of different disciplines from GFZ are investigating lakes and their catchments.

End of the excursion/meeting – with subsequent transfer to Berlin-Tegel Airport – is at 14:00 o’clock

Meeting site/accommodation:

Meeting site/accommodation is organized in the Mueritz Hotel in Klink village (, immediately located at Lake Mueritz that is – with an area of approx. 120 square kilometers – the largest lake in the North German Plain. After confirmation of your participation (see under “Kind request” below), we will book for you a room in that hotel.

Additional information: As the Hotel has both an indoor swimming pool (and sauna) and a beach at the lakeshore of Lake Mueritz we recommend, for your pleasure, to bring along bathing wear (mid of September the water temperatures of Lake Mueritz are normally suitable for bathing).

Those of the advisory board members who will come to Germany by plane will be carried by minibus transfer from Berlin-Tegel Airport to Klink. Berlin-Tegel is the most suitable airport for this region. The travel time from Berlin to Klink is approx. 2 hours. Those members who will come by their own car can reach Klink using the A24/A19 motorways. Even an arrival via railway is possible using the railway line Berlin-Rostock, exiting in railway station Waren/Müritz. We will organize a pickup from that railway station.

Recommendation: We highly recommend an arrival by plane at Berlin-Tegel Airport (or by train at Waren/Mueritz or by car at Klink) already on 15 September (Sunday) in the afternoon / evening. Thus a relaxed beginning of our meeting can be guaranteed.

Kind request:

Please confirm your participation by replying this e-mail, providing the following information:

·         When and how (plane, train, car) do you plan to come to (and to leave) this meeting? If already available please mention the intended arrival time at Berlin-Tegel Airport (or by train at Waren/Mueritz or by car at Klink).

·         Which hotel room category (single or double) shall we book for you?

·         Have you any further wishes with respect to your travel or stay?

Next information about the annual meeting of the advisory board at Klink/Mueritz will be sent end of July, providing the final program, further details of the meeting’s organization, and the annual TERENO report as agreed in Scheyern/Bavaria last year.
